EVENT DETAILS

Learn from Peter Berkrot, in this VO Peeps Audiobook Workshop!

In a casual and fun session, we will acquaint ourselves with an overview of the skills and muscles necessary to consider a viable career as a narrator in this burgeoning industry. Whether you’re a complete novice or an actor, voice over artist, author with some experience and insight into audiobooks, a broad and specific discussion of the “Dos and Donts” of audiobook narration will put you on a path to a deeper understanding of the art form and your personal and professional path forward. Some of the things we will explore in the first half of class may include pace, understanding the distinction between reading and storytelling, the shifting roles and points of view of the Narrator in a novel, strategies for building a repertoire of characters, discussing genre and style and the differences between narrating Fiction and Non-Fiction.

The second half of class will offer students the opportunity of one-on-one coaching, taking direction, and making adjustments toward a deeper connection to the material. Participants are asked to bring a page to work with, Non- fiction or Fiction. The first page of a favorite novel or genre would work, or an open audition on www.acx.com.

(Romance, Thriller, Sci-Fi...) makes a terrific template for narrating fiction. Starting a book has its own unique challenges. Think about material that you think you might be right for or want to narrate. Bring a notebook. And a pen. Like the olden days.
